Chrysler makes operating profit in 2nd quarter

According to Chrysler's CEO, Sergio Marchionne, the beleaguered company has made an operating profit for the second quarter of 2010.

While detailed information won't be released until August 9th, Chrysler's bottom line was helped by Fiat's decision to distribute Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles in Italy, France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. Regardless, it's hard to remember the last time anyone said "Chrysler" and "profit" in the same sentence.

Fiat, on the other hand, earned 113 million euros ($146 million) in the second quarter. This was due, in part, to a 6.7% increase in vehicles sales (of Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati and Ferrari) which helped worldwide revenues rise 12.5% to 14.8 billion euros ($19.1 billion).
